Chris Nance Memorial

Support the Michigan Music Scene and Culinary Arts

Welcome

Chris had a great love of his friends and the Michigan Music Scene.  He loved to support local bands he admired by attending as many shows as possible.  Unfortunately on October 30th, 2010 he died in a car accident on the way to one of these shows being played and attended by many of his best friends.  The only comfort we have is that he was on his way to do something he loved to do, he left that evening with a beaming smile.

Chris exposed us to local music.  The talent they have is great.  I was privledged to hear and witness some of their creative process.  I admit some of what I thought sounded like a bunch of loud music with screaming was a little startling.  I decided, as I have with other styles of music, to explore this style.  I listened to their comments on 'their music' and then I would listen to it again and find the lyrics.  I was blown away.  I heard lyrics about love, hate, disappointment, friendship, lost youth and dreams for the future. It is a moving experience to hear and see all these young people singing these lyrics at a live show.  They come because their friends and some of their favorite bands are there.  They laugh, sing, socialize and yes, mosh and stage dive.  I get the feeling that sometimes they may disagree with each other, but when push comes to shove they always have each others back.  I am so proud to know many of them and have had such support and love from them for our family since Chris left us.  I undestand the love he had for them and the music scene.

Chris also loved food.  He had planned on becoming a Pastry Chef.  He was very proud of his baking skills.  I remember he had a knack for making it look effortless.

It is our intention to carry on the support and love Chris had for both these things.

On December 29th, 2011 we had the 2nd Chris Nance Memorial Show with the help of Fusion Shows.  The show was a great success and all proceeds were donated to the Pinckney Community High School Culinary Dept.  We plan to have this show every year on 12/29, his birthdate.  The show was held at the Howell Opera House.  I can't thank the bands enough for their help.  Endeavors, Deadlight, From Rise to Ruin, Shivers, Traitor and The Right Stuff you rocked it!!!

We are looking forward to next years show already and making plans and will keep everyone updated with the details!!!!!

Below are a few of the bands that have performed for the memorial.  Give them a listen and show your support.
